I find myself once again at the Atlanta Bread Company in Dothan. Today I’m not concerned with such frivolities as being the coolest guy in the restaurant, although I believe I am the only guy in the restaurant with a Mac, I am officially announcing that I am actively seeking a new career in the engineering/tech industry. This has been a decision I’ve been processing for years but never had the guts to make the move and a result I have experienced a comfortably, complacent numbness that is not what God had intended for my life. Understand that I am not ungrateful for my current employment or the experiences that have led to my character development but God has made me an analytical problem solver and to not use the gifts he has bestowed is a slap in the face of my Creator. I don’t know what lies ahead, how long or how difficult it will be to obtain a position, but I am confident that God is with me every step of the way.
Kidstuf-awesome
7 02 2009I just got back from RCC’s KidStuf production. It was awesome. The music was thumpin’, the actors were hilarious, the tech team did a great job, the food service was smooth, and cleanup was fast. It was all great. What made it awesome though, was all the teenage kids serving, especially the teen guys. You may not think it is a big deal, but when I was a teen guy (way back) the last thing I wanted to do was serve at some “church function.” Somehow the leaders at RCC have created such an irresitable culture of service that a cool teenage guy would want to come and get up and dance in front of a bunch of kids. Incredible.

When I say Lo, you say ser
20 01 2009I am a loser. When I got to Atlanta Bread Company in Dothan this afternooon and pulled out my 15″ MacBook Pro, I was certain I was the coolest guy in the restaurant. I was going to sit at my table, eat my sandwich, sip on some Dr. Pepper, and check my e-mail, surf, blog, or whatever. I even dressed cool today. That was until I went to pickup my sandwich and noticed that a guy at a nearby table had the new 15″ MacBook Pro uni-body. And he was dressed cool. I was devastated. And then a voice said to me, “Richard, you are a loser.” So there you have it, I am a loser.

Day off
17 01 2009This seems like the first day off that has not been packed with stuff to do or places to go in a long time. The only thing I need to get done today is putting some old music gear for sell on eBay. I told myself and most importantly my wife that I wouldn’t buy any music gear until I sold the stuff I never use. That’s a reasonable agreement but it’s so much easier just to buy stuff.

Life Group
5 01 2009I just got back from my Life Group meeting. Life Group’s are what my church, RiverTown Community Church, calls small groups. It’s a group of people who meet two or three times a month in each other’s homes and talk about God, the Word, and what’s going on in each other’s lives. I love my Life Group. I have the priviledge of facilitating this group. Notice how I said priviledge. It really is.
I have the problem though of getting on a soap box and preaching my ideas to everybody in the group. I’ve got to stop doing that. Everybody in the group is cool and cuts me some slack. I haven’t been voted off the island yet.

Huh?
3 01 2009This is my first time blogging and I’m not quite sure what to do. What makes a good blog anyway? And who in the world would want to read mine?
